Ratan Tata: Semiconductor Manufacturing to Elevate Assam's Global Presence

Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd will set up a semiconductor unit in Assam. With a capacity of producing 48 million chips per day, this facility is being built for Rs 27,000 crore

Industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata stated that Tata's semiconductor manufacturing in Assam will place the state on the global map. Assam CM Sarma visited Tata Sons Emeritus Chairman Ratan Tata and Chairman N Chandrasekaran, expressing gratitude for establishing the semiconductor facility.

In a post on X, Ratan Tata wrote, "The investments being made in Assam transform the state into a hub for advanced cancer care. Today, the Assam state government, in collaboration with the Tata group, will establish Assam as a significant player in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. This new endeavor will elevate Assam's global presence. We extend our gratitude to Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for his support and visionary leadership that has enabled this achievement."

In response to the tweet, Sarma expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you very much, Shri @RNTata2000 ji, for your valuable insights, gracious hospitality, and most importantly, your confidence in a #ViksitAssam." He mentioned that during his discussions with the Tata leadership, they reached an agreement to establish a skill development center co-located within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad. 


This center will empower youths from the East by providing courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, enabling them to secure jobs in the Jagiroad unit," he said. "Currently, 1,500 youths from Assam, primarily women, are undergoing training at Tata facilities in and around Bangalore." Sarma added, "This will position them for leadership roles once the semiconductor facility becomes operational in 2025.
