Elon Musk, who will visit India for 48 hours, is expected to make high voltage announcements including Starlink service, and investment plans in the range of $2 billion to $3 billion. Meetings with PM Modi, government officials, and industry representatives are on agenda.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has confirmed his upcoming visit to India where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A recent report by CNBC-TV18 has unveiled specifics about Musk's itinerary for the trip.
As per the report, Musk's eagerly anticipated journey to India is set to commence on April 21st, stirring a wave of anticipation. With a mere 48 hours on Indian soil, the billionaire is poised to unveil a cascade of groundbreaking announcements, igniting hope and excitement. Among them, whispers suggest the launch of the revolutionary Starlink service and the revelation of investment blueprints amounting to a staggering $2 billion to $3 billion, promising to reshape India's technological landscape.
In addition to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Musk plans to engage with key government officials and industry leaders. Their last encounter was during Modi's visit to the US in June last year. Since then, Musk has advocated for lower import duties on electric vehicles to facilitate Tesla's entry into the Indian market.
The Indian government finally relented last month, announcing a new EV policy that reduces import taxes on some models from 100% to 15% if the manufacturer commits to investing $500 million or more, and sets up a factory in the country.
According to CNBC TV 18, Tesla aims not only to produce cars in India but also to export them globally. A recent report from the Hindu Business Line suggested that Tesla is discussing a potential partnership with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries to establish a manufacturing plant in India.
Talks between RIL and Tesla have reportedly been ongoing for over a month, with RIL potentially aiding in creating production capacity for Tesla's electric vehicles in India.
Recently, Musk expressed on X (formerly Twitter) that India should embrace electric cars like other nations, deeming it a 'natural progression' for Tesla to introduce EVs in the Indian market.
