Not long ago, the Indian Navy saved 17 crew members from the ship MV Ruen and caught 35 Somali pirates during an operation against piracy. The operation lasted two days and included a navy destroyer, a patrol ship, an Indian Air Force C-17 transporter flying over 1,500 miles to drop marine commandos, a naval drone, a reconnaissance drone, and a P-8 surveillance jet.

In December last year, Somali pirates seized the Bulgarian ship MV Ruen. However, last week, when the Ruen tried to leave Somali waters to commit piracy on the open seas, the Indian Navy moved to stop it.

According to the information, the Indian Navy instructed INS Kolkata to intercept the pirate ship Ruen.

On March 15th, INS Kolkata intercepted the Ruen and disabled its steering system and navigational tools, causing the pirate ship to halt. As a result of the operation, the pirates surrendered, and they released the pirate ship MV Ruen along with its original crew who were on board.

On March 16th, the Indian Navy safely rescued all 17 original crew members of MV Ruen from the pirate vessel without any injuries. Additionally, the 35 Somali pirates surrendered on the same day.

On Saturday, the pirates were given to the Mumbai Police. They were taken from Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, to JJ Hospital for medical checks.

Bulgarian leaders, including President Rumen Radev, expressed their gratitude to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the operation.

"I am sincerely thankful to Prime Minister Modi for the courageous action of the Navy in rescuing the hijacked Bulgarian ship 'Ruen' and its crew, including 7 Bulgarian citizens," Radev stated in a post on X.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Mariya Gabriel, also expressed gratitude to the Indian Navy for saving seven Bulgarian citizens during a successful anti-piracy operation in the Arabian Sea. In response, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that this is exactly what friends do.
